Brendan Fraser & Rachel Weisz Officially Set For Uni’s Next ‘Mummy’ Movie From Radio Silence; Pic Hits Theaters Early Summer 2028

Oscar-winning actors Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz are returning to Universal's The Mummy series. The next movie in the franchise is scheduled for May 19, 2028, Universal announced on Tuesday. The studio had previously postponed the release date for an event film, and there are no other major movies planned for that date.

Deadline reported in November that Fraser and Weisz were in discussions to star in the movie, which is directed by Radio Silence and written by David Coggeshall.

Details about the story have not been shared yet. Weisz previously starred in the first two Mummy films from 1999 and 2001, while Fraser was in the first three, including the 2008 movie The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor.

The film will be directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett of Radio Silence, who previously worked on Universal's 2024 vampire movie Abigail.

This will be their return to the studio after that project.

Sean Daniel, who has a long history with the Mummy franchise and has helped it earn over $1.8 billion worldwide, is back as a producer.

He worked on the first three films, as well as the 2017 Tom Cruise reboot.

William Sherak, James Vanderbilt, and Paul Neinstein are producing the next Mummy movie through Project X Entertainment.

Brendan Fraser, Jason F. Brown, and Denis Stewart are serving as executive producers.

Universal's EVP of Production Development, Jay Polidoro, and Director of Production Development, Jacqueline Garell, are managing the production.

Radio Silence's next film is the horror sequel Ready or Not 2: Here I Come, which will have its world premiere at SXSW and open on March 20.
