Newsom said on a podcast that he has done more for transgender rights than any other governor and is a strong advocate for the LGBT community.
Minaj responded by saying, "Imagine being the guy running on wanting to see trans kids.
Haha. Not even a trans adult would run on that. Normal adults wake up and think they want to see healthy, safe, happy kids. Not Gav. The Gav Nots. GavOUT. Send in the next guy, I'm bored."
This exchange followed a video shared by Elon Musk's America PAC of Newsom's comments about transgender children, with Newsom's office retweeting it and writing, "We're sorry your daughter hates you, Elon," referring to Musk's estranged daughter Vivian.
Musk replied, "I assume you're referring to my son, Xavier, who has a tragic mental illness caused by the evil woke mind virus you push on vulnerable children.
I love Xavier very much and hope he recovers."
Minaj continued to mock Newsom on X, calling him "the cute boy who got everything handed to him because of how cute and sexy he was.
" She also joked about his look and compared him to Tom Cruise, saying, "His next mission is impossible."
Newsom is seen as a possible Democratic candidate for 2028.
Minaj also suggested that his presidential bid might fail, writing, "Oh Gavvy pooh, it only gets worse from here for you, buddy," and shared pictures of Chucky. She added, "It's the end of the road for you, my love. Get on the nearest jet ski and let that beautiful hair blow in the wind. It will make you happier than this race that you will not win. Enjoy life. Peace."
Minaj has been aligning with Trump administration officials and policies lately.
In November, she shared a post from Trump's Truth Social about Christianity facing threats in Nigeria, and she expressed gratitude for living in a country where people can freely worship. She also thanked Trump and his team for taking the issue seriously and encouraged people to pray for persecuted Christians.
Minaj gave a speech at the UN about the treatment of Christians in Nigeria with UN Ambassador Mike Waltz.
She also shared a White House TikTok set to her song "Va Va Voom" celebrating the Trump administration's achievements, including "No men in women's sports."
This week, Minaj seemed to support Vice President J.D. Vance over Newsom, retweeting images of Vance and writing, "The Vance > The Gav Nots."
Before Trump's first term, Minaj supported then-president Barack Obama and Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton.
She also criticized Trump's immigration policies, especially the "zero-tolerance" approach that led to migrant children being separated from their families.
In 2018, Minaj shared a post on Instagram saying, "I came to this country as an illegal immigrant at 5 years old.
I can't imagine the horror of being in a strange place and having my parents stripped away from me at the age of 5. This is so scary to me. Please stop this. Can you try to imagine the terror and panic these kids feel right now? Not knowing if their parents are dead or alive, if they'll ever see them again..."
