As expected, Squid Game Season 2 was an instant success. Season 2 garnered 68 million views in its first four days of release, more than any other Netflix series in its premiere week and surpassing the 50.1 million views recorded by Wednesday in 2022.
The season also quickly ranked 7th on Netflix's list of the most popular non-English TV shows of all time, measured by viewership in the first 91 days of each series. Squid Game Season 1 currently tops the list with 265.2 views, but there's still a good chance that Season 2 will surpass that record.
Of course, this also makes Squid Game Season 2 Netflix's most-watched title in a week in December. 23-29. Season 1 also garnered attention again, ranking third among non-English TV series this week with 8.1 million views. The second most-watched title this week was the Taron Egerton film Carry On (34.9 million), followed by Tyler Perry's Six Triple Eight (23.3 million).
The English TV chart was topped by two Netflix NFL games on Christmas Day. The Ravens vs. Texans game, featuring Beyoncé's halftime performance, came in first with 14.4 million views, while the Chiefs vs. Steelers game was close behind with 14.3 million views.
Season 6 of "Virgin River" became the first scripted series on the English chart, peaking at third place with 9.2 million views in its opening weekend. Season 1 also climbed the ranks, reaching 10th place with 1.3 million views. Coming in at 4th place was the comedy special "Your Friend, Nate Bargatze," which garnered 6.3 million views in its first six days, followed by "Black Doves," which garnered 5.4 million views in its first three weeks.
"Fireplace for Your Home: Crackling Birch Fireplace" was the 6th title on the chart. Apparently, it was playing in the background of many Netflix users' holiday celebrations. Another variation, "Fireplace for Your Home: Classic Crackling Fireplace," reached 9th place with 1.6 million views. "The Madness" peaked at number 7 in its fifth week on the chart, reaching 3 million streams, followed by "No Good Deed" with 2.7 million streams in its third week.
Below is Netflix's top 10 list for the week of December 23-29. The list starts with English series, followed by non-English TV shows, English movies, and non-English movies.
