A DC Studios spokesperson said in a statement shared with Deadline, which first reported the news, "Production on The Batman Part II has been temporarily paused while Matt Reeves focuses on a family matter.
Matt has the full support of DC Studios, and we look forward to continuing the journey soon."
Filming for The Batman Part II started in London in June after several delays during the development process.
Reeves and co-writer Mattson Tomlin worked on the script over time.The film is scheduled to come out on February 18, 2028, and is seen as a key project for DC Studios because Batman is one of DC's most successful characters at the box office.
Robert Pattinson plays Bruce Wayne/Batman in the movie, with new characters added to the series, including Scarlett Johansson and Sebastian Stan.
Reeves directed 2022's The Batman, which made $770.3 million worldwide, and created the TV series The Penguin, featuring Colin Farrell.
He also produced DC's upcoming Clayface movie, which focuses on the Batman villain and is set for release on October 23.
This news comes as Skydance is completing its takeover of DC Studios from Warner Bros.
on Tuesday.DC executives James Gunn and Peter Safran are staying with the new ownership, while Warner Bros.film leaders Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy are leaving.
