New Classics Pictures' crime drama "Traces of Justice" was the biggest movie in mainland China during the weekend of October 2-4.
It made RMB208.9 million, which is about $31.2 million, according to Artisan Gateway.
The movie, also called "Sherlock of China," came out on October 1 as part of the Golden Week holiday.
It has made $41.8 million so far.Directed by Chen Sicheng, who also directed "Detective Chinatown," and written by Ji Zhang, the film stars Zhang Yi, Li Ma, Li Xuejian, Karry Wang, Fan Chengcheng, and Chen Feiyu.It covers many years and follows a famous detective and his team as they solve tough crimes while showing how China's public security system has changed over time.
Beijing Joy Fun Pictures' comedy "Mr.
& Mrs.Pardon" came in second, earning $17.3 million over the weekend.This brings its total to $24.5 million since it started on October 1.Directed by Shen Chunyang and written by Ma Duo, the movie is a funny family comedy.It stars Shen Chunyang and Xiao Shenyang, along with Jia Bing and Yu Yang.The story is about a middle-aged couple who are tired of their routine life and facing marital problems.After a strange body swap, their normal life turns into a chaotic comedy.
Dirty Monkeys' war comedy-drama "Once Upon a Time in the Middle East" was third in its eighth weekend.
It made $4.4 million, increasing its total to $349.9 million since August 11.Directed by Wen Muye, the film stars Shen Teng, Jiang Qiming, Aarif Rahman, and Omar Sherif.It follows a Chinese chef who runs a restaurant in a made-up Middle Eastern city.When war breaks out, his restaurant becomes a safe place for civilians.
Pearl Studio's animated fantasy comedy "All Wishes Come True!" came in fourth in its 12th weekend, earning $4.3 million.
Directed by Mu Zhengyang, the film has made $302.2 million since it started on July 18 and has passed the RMB2 billion mark.
Rounding out the top five, CMC Pictures' crime action thriller "Go for Broke 2" opened with $4.2 million over two days.
With preview screenings starting on October 3, the film has made $4.2 million so far.Written and directed by Marc Ma, who also directed the first movie, the story follows a mother who lost her child.She teams up with another parent who also lost a child to hunt down a violent criminal group.
The overall box office for mainland China during the weekend was $74.1 million, as more people went to the movies for the National Day holiday.
So far this year, the total box office revenue is $4.52 billion, which is 29.7% less than the same time last year.
