Netflix is working on an animated TV series based on Blizzard Entertainment's popular Diablo video game franchise, according to Variety.
The Diablo games take place in the dark world of Sanctuary, where humans are caught in a long-standing battle between the High Heavens and the Burning Hells.
Blizzard shared a statement about the project, saying, "After many years of creating entire worlds through our games, we're teaming up with some top creative talents to tell more stories beyond gaming on new platforms.
A new animated series set in the world of 'Diablo' is in development with Netflix.More details will come later, but this is just the start, with even more projects in the works across our universes."
The first Diablo game was released in 1996, making this year the 30th anniversary of the action-RPG series.
The latest game, Diablo IV, came out in 2023.
The news about the Diablo TV series was announced by Blizzard president Johanna Faries during the opening ceremony of BlizzCon 2026 at the Anaheim Convention Center on Saturday.
The two-day fan event, which is the first BlizzCon since Microsoft bought Activision Blizzard for $69 billion in 2023, celebrates all of Blizzard's games, including Diablo, World of Warcraft, and Overwatch.
Faries told Variety in an interview before the event, "BlizzCon means a lot to all of us because it lets us highlight all the great work happening at Blizzard.
We've thought carefully about this moment and why now, and how we can keep building on the energy we're feeling as a company."
