The "Darkwing Duck" reboot has been picked up for a full series by Disney+, according to Variety.
This news comes almost six years after Variety first reported that the project was in the works at the streaming service.
The new show will feature a voice cast that includes:
Mark Hamill as Drake Mallard, also known as Darkwing Duck, Seth Rogen as Launchpad McQuack, Lizzy Caplan as Gosalyn Mallard, Lilimar as Duckie, Dan Stevens as Glade McTowers, Tiffany Shepis as Rosa, Kathryn Newton as Firecracker, Teo Briones as Timb, Tyler Dean Flores as Pondsy, Katie Rich as Officer Shanks, and Nat Faxon as Officer Webb.
The official description says, "For the last 35 years, Darkwing Duck has been stuck in his worst nightmare: an alternate world that doesn’t know about his superhero adventures.
Now a rebellious teen named Duckie, who knows all about his past, arrives to pull this self-centered vigilante back into action.Together, this unlikely pair will become a dangerous force as they face old foes like Negaduck and Megavolt and reunite with allies Launchpad, Gosalyn, and Morgana to save the whole universe."
Sean Tretta and Borja Peña Gorostegui are the writers and executive producers of the reboot.
The show is also produced by Rogen, Evan Goldberg, James Weaver, Alex McAtee, and Gabby Grantham through Point Grey Pictures.Tad Stones, who created the original "Darkwing Duck" series, has consulted on the new project.
The Point Grey team said, "Disney said 'Let's get dangerous' and we said 'Hell yeah!'"
The original "Darkwing Duck" was created by Stones and ran from 1991 to 1992 for three seasons and 91 episodes.
It originally aired on The Disney Channel and ABC, and was also shown in syndication.The show featured the voices of Jim Cummings as Darkwing Duck, Christine Cavanaugh as Gosalyn, and Terry McGovern as Launchpad.
Stones said, "Like every other fan of the original show, I'm excited to see Darkwing getting dangerous again in a whole new series.
The new creative team has definitely increased the action and comedy without forgetting the Disney heart.This series puts DW in the tradition of heroes like Robin Hood, Zorro, and Sherlock Holmes, whose stories have been retold many times in different ways.They explored those characters by placing them in new times, new relationships, and even new worlds.No matter when or where, Darkwing Duck will appear in a cloud of blue smoke to grab the spotlight."
"Darkwing Duck" also had ties to another Disney animated series, "DuckTales," with Launchpad appearing in both the original "DuckTales" and its recent reboot.
Recently, Darkwing and Gosalyn also appeared in the rebooted show.In that version, Darkwing is a fictional character from an old superhero TV series.In Season 2, Mallard, the president of the Darkwing Duck fan club, gets the chance to become Darkwing in real life and starts fighting crime.Gosalyn was introduced in Season 3.
