Sony's "Resident Evil" was the biggest movie last week, making a lot of money at the box office.It's trying to stay number one for the second week in a row.
This weekend, it will face some new competition from other movies.
These include Marvel's re-release of "Avengers: Endgame," which adds new scenes before the upcoming "Avengers: Doomsday" in December.There's also Paramount and Brad Pitt's survival movie "Heart of the Beast," A24 and Robert Pattinson's "Primetime," and Universal and DreamWorks Animation's animated film "Forgotten Island." All these movies are showing at the box office this weekend.
"Avengers: Endgame Encore" made $3.8 million in previews.
It's expected to make between $25 million and $28 million this weekend, which is a big number for a re-release."Resident Evil" made $61 million last week and is aiming for $24 million to $26 million this time around.
"Primetime," which made $2.7 million in previews, and "Heart of the Beast," which made $2 million in previews, are both expected to make $17 million to $20 million on opening weekend.
Robert Pattinson plays Chris Hansen, a "To Catch a Predator" host, in "Primetime." The film is a dark look at the reality TV show.The cast includes Merritt Wever, Skyler Gisondo, Tony Revolori, Anna Faris, Phoebe Bridgers, and others.The film is directed by Lance Oppenheim.Oppenheim surprised people at the Telluride Film Festival when he announced he co-directed an Elizabeth Holmes documentary called "You Can See Everything" with comedian Nathan Fielder.That documentary comes out next month.
In "Heart of the Beast," Brad Pitt plays a retired Army veteran who gets lost in the Alaskan wilderness with his military dog.
Together, they have to walk 58 miles to safety, facing extreme weather and dealing with PTSD.The film also stars J.K.Simmons and is directed by David Ayer.
"Forgotten Island" had $1.5 million in previews and is aiming for $15 million to $17 million this weekend.
The movie is set in the Philippines in the 1990s and stars singer H.E.R.and Liza Soberano as two best friends about to go to college.They end up in a magical world and have to escape before they forget each other forever.The film also includes Dave Franco, Jenny Slate, Manny Jacinto, Jo Koy, and others.
