Disney’s ‘The Princess and the Frog’: Colman Domingo in Early Talks to Write Live-Action Adaptation

 Disney's "The Princess and the Frog" is getting a live-action version.It might also have a big name helping write the script.Colman Domingo is talking about joining the project as a co-writer.He's currently in the show "Disclosure Day" by Steven Spielberg.He'll write the screenplay with Robert O'Hara, who directed "Slave Play." However, TheWrap says the movie is still in early stages, and no deals have been finalized.It's not clear if Disney has a director picked yet.


"The Princess and the Frog" came out in 2009. It was directed by Ron Clements and John Musker, who also made "The Little Mermaid" and "Moana." Both of those films are also getting live-action versions.The original movie is set in Jazz Age New Orleans and is based on the Brothers Grimm story "The Frog Prince" and the 2002 book "The Frog Princess" by E.D.Baker.


In the animated movie, Tiana is a waitress who wants to start her own restaurant.

She gets tricked by a prince who's turned into a frog.It was the second-to-last traditionally animated film from Walt Disney Animation Studios.


The film is known for its songs by Randy Newman, some of which were nominated for the Best Original Song Oscar.

It also features Dr.Facilier, a voodoo practitioner voiced by Keith David.Dr.Facilier has become a famous Disney villain and is often used during the company's Halloween events.


Since the movie came out, Tiana has appeared in "Ralph Breaks the Internet" and an upcoming Disney+ animated special.

There's also a ride called Tiana's Bayou Adventure at Disneyland and Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom.This ride replaced Splash Mountain, which was based on Disney's controversial 1946 film "Song of the South."


Colman Domingo has also been on the final season of HBO's "Euphoria" and voiced the Lion in "Wicked: For Good." He is represented by WME, Liebman Entertainment, and Shreck Rose Dapello Adams Berlin & Dunham.
