‘Black Panther 3’: David Jonsson to Star as T’Challa’s Son, Sequel Set for 2028

Black Panther 3 is getting ready to come out in theaters.

During a Marvel Studios panel at San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday, Kevin Feige and director Ryan Coogler said the next movie will be shot in 70mm and will open in theaters on December 15, 2028.
They also shared that David Jonsson will play an adult version of T'Challa's son, who was played by the late Chadwick Boseman in the 2018 original.

He will take on the role of Black Panther in the film.

Jonsson is a new face in Hollywood, having acted in Alien: Romulus and The Long Walk.
He was also part of the main cast in the first two seasons of Industry.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever ended with the news that T'Challa, played by Boseman, had a child with Nakia, played by Lupita Nyong'o.
Since this is Marvel, there might be a time jump or some other storyline to help age up the character for this new movie. The film will come after next year's Avengers: Secret Wars and could have a big effect on the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The Black Panther series started with the 2018 movie, where Boseman played T'Challa.
The movie had a great cast, including Michael B.Jordan, Lupita Nyong'o, Danai Gurira, Martin Freeman, Daniel Kaluuya, Letitia Wright, Winston Duke, and Angela Bassett. The movie was a huge hit, making over $1.3 billion worldwide and becoming the first superhero movie to be nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars.

Boseman was supposed to return as T'Challa in a planned sequel but passed away in 2020 after a private battle with colon cancer.
The follow-up movie then focused on Shuri, played by Letitia Wright, who took over the role of Black Panther after her brother's death. The sequel, Wakanda Forever, came out in 2022 and earned over $850 million worldwide. It won an Oscar from five nominations, with Angela Bassett becoming the first person to be nominated for an Academy Award for a Marvel movie.

At this year's Marvel panel in San Diego, Ryan Gosling appeared to talk about his role as Ghost Rider in a new movie from Shawn Levy, who will also direct next year's Star Wars: Starfighter.
