Sydney Sweeney Thriller ‘The Caretaker’ Lands David Bruckner as Director

Universal Pictures is taking advantage of Sydney Sweeney's popularity and the success of *The Housemaid* by speeding up the development of their own Sweeney thriller, *The Caretaker*.

David Bruckner, a well-known name in the horror genre, has been chosen to direct this new movie.
It is based on a book by Marcus Kliewer, which was originally a short story from 2022.

Sydney Sweeney is producing *The Caretaker*, along with Michael Bay and Brad Fuller through their Platinum Dunes label, which has a special partnership with Universal.
Scott Glassgold is also producing the film via his 12:01 Films.

The story follows a young woman named Macy Mullins who takes a job in the Oregon wilderness for three days and good pay.
What starts as an unusual opportunity quickly turns into a terrifying experience. The book suggests that there is a dangerous force on the property, and Macy may be the only person who can stop it.

David Bruckner will also be writing the screenplay for the movie.
Earlier drafts were written by Karl Gajdusek and Drew Crevello.

Universal hasn't made any official comments about hiring Bruckner.

Sydney Sweeney’s projects have become very popular, especially after the huge success of *The Housemaid*, which made over $400 million worldwide.

The popularity of Sweeney has continued with the recent premiere of *Euphoria*, which attracted 8.5 million viewers across all platforms in its first three days.
She stars in the show with Zendaya, Jacob Elordi, and others.

Bruckner is known for his work in horror and thrillers.
He directed *Night House*, which was shown at Sundance and earned Searchlight a $12 million deal. He also directed *The Ritual* and the *Hellraiser* reboot. He has worked on several horror anthologies and episodes of *Creepshow*.

Bruckner is represented by WME and Untitled.
