Disney hasn't given out a detailed description of the story, but "Tink" has a long background at the studio.
Back in 2010, there was talk of a live-action romantic comedy starring Elizabeth Banks. Adam Shankman, Jennifer Gibgot, and McG were involved as producers. In 2015, Reese Witherspoon was set to star in another version of "Tink," which was described as a live-action film based on the "Peter Pan" character Tinker Bell. More recently, Yara Shahidi played Tinker Bell in the 2023 live action movie "Peter Pan and Wendy."
This new "Tink" is in development at Disney+ through 20th Television.
Along with Heldens and Carpenter, Gary Marsh, who used to be a top executive at Disney Channels and Disney Branded Television, is also an executive producer. Even after he left his role in 2021, "Tink" was still one of his projects. Quinn Haberman from "Selfish Mermaid" is also an executive producer.
Heldens is currently co-showrunning ABC's "Will Trent."
She has worked on shows like "Boston Public," the medical drama "Mercy," the crime drama "Deception," the sci-fi thriller "The Passage," and network dramedies "Camp" and "The Big Leap." She was also an executive producer on Fox's "The Orville" and Hulu's "The Dropout."
Carpenter has worked on shows like "Only Murders in the Building," "Parenthood," "Westworld," "The Red Road," and "11.22.63."
She's also a playwright whose work has been produced at famous theaters like Steppenwolf Theatre Company, The Public Theater, Berkeley Repertory Theatre, and the Oregon Shakespeare Festival.
Deadline first reported the news.
