Avatar: Fire and Ash’ Stays No. 1 with $22.6 Million Post-Christmas; ‘Marty Supreme’ Adds $6.7 Million on Friday

It's the best time of the year for moviegoers, and the Christmas Day releases kept bringing in money on Friday.
But James Cameron's "Avatar: Fire and Ash" came out on top for the second weekend in a row.

Disney's third "Avatar" movie made $22.6 million in the US on Friday, which is about 39% less than the opening day from last week.
The film has made $46.6 million since Christmas and is expected to make up to $75 million to $80 million domestically by Sunday. North American earnings should hit $176 million by the end of the week.

Rounding out the top five were two new holiday movies, including "Anaconda" with Jack Black and Paul Rudd, and "Marty Supreme" with Timothée Chalamet, as well as older movies like Disney's "Zootopia 2" and Paul Feig's "The Housemaid."

A24's "Marty Supreme" came in second on Friday with $6.73 million in the US from 2,668 theaters.
The film has made $16.2 million since Christmas and is predicted to earn $30 million by Sunday. Directed by Josh Safdie, Chalamet stars as Marty "Supreme" Mauser, an up-and-coming table tennis player who rises to the top through confident talk and amazing skill.

"Marty Supreme" made it into the top 10 at the box office last week with $875,000 from just six theaters.
That's $145,933 per theater, the best per-screen average of the year, the highest ever for A24, and the best since 2016's "La La Land." The early success is due to a strong marketing campaign led by Chalamet, who played the role of Marty with bold confidence and made "Marty Supreme" one of the most talked about holiday movies in recent years.

"Zootopia 2" moved up to third place on Friday with $6.7 million in the US, after being in fifth place the week before.
Schools being out for winter break might have helped the sudden increase in the family-friendly animated comedy. The film is expected to add $20 million by Sunday, which is impressive since it came out a month ago. The domestic total should reach $308 million by the end of the week.

Sony's "Anaconda" came in fourth on Friday with $5.4 million in the US.
The comedy follows a group of amateur filmmakers trying to recreate their favorite 1997 movie of the same name. It made $9.1 million on Christmas and is expected to earn $22 million by Sunday. Along with Rudd and Black, the film stars Steve Zahn, Thandiwe Newton, Daniela Melchior, and Ice Cube. The rapper played himself in the remake for a meta-style return.

The No. 5 spot went to "The Housemaid," which made $5.2 million on Friday, up from $3.5 million on Christmas Day.
Starring Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried, the psychological thriller is expected to reach a domestic total of $45 million by Sunday.
