Apple Lands Anya Taylor-Joy Led Drama ‘Lucky,’ Based on Bestseller

Apple TV+ has released a series adaptation of Marissa Stapley's bestselling novel Lucky, starring Anya Taylor-Joy.

The miniseries, which Taylor-Joy (Furiosa, The Queen's Gambit)  also  executive produces, comes from Apple Studios and Reese Witherspoon's Hello Sunshine (the novel was a 2021 Reese's Book Club selection). Jonathan Tropper (Apple's Sea and the upcoming Your Friends & Neighbors) is  series creator and serves as co-showrunner with Cassie Pappas (Silo, Griselda).

Lucky marks Taylor-Joy's second project with Apple. She also stars in the feature film The Gorge, due for release next year. Witherspoon is also connected to Apple TV+ through The Morning Show, where she stars and executive produces. "Reese's Book Club was founded to deepen our connection to stories,  storytellers, and  the community we build," Witherspoon said in a statement. "It's so gratifying to continue amplifying these female-centric stories and their writers, to allow our community to connect with them, and to watch them take on a whole new life on screen. We couldn't be more excited to partner with Apple TV+ and the incomparable Anya Taylor-Joy, along with the brilliant creators Jonathan Tropper and his incredible co-showrunner Cathy Pappas, to bring this compelling series based on Marissa Stapley's amazing novel to audiences everywhere and present it to the world."

In "Lucky," Taylor-Joy plays a young woman who grew up in a life of crime but has since left that world behind. She must once again confront her dark, criminal side  in order to escape her past.

"Hello Sunshine continues to do great work giving a voice to women, and I'm thrilled to join the team with Jonathan, Cathy, and Apple TV+ to bring Lucky to life," Taylor-Joy said. Tropper, who has an overall deal with Apple TV+, will executive produce through their Hello Sunshine Tropper Inc. banner alongside Pappas, Witherspoon and Lauren Neustadter, while Taylor-Joy will executive produce through her company Ladykiller.

Taylor-Joy has won a SAG Award, a Golden Globe Award and a Critics Choice Award and was nominated for an Emmy for her role in Netflix's The Queen's Gambit. She stars opposite Chris Evans, Salma Hayek and Brendan Fraser in the upcoming film Sacrifice. Her most recent credits include The Menu and Dune: Part Two. Taylor-Joy is repped by CAA, The Way Management and Felker Toczek.

Stapley is repped by CAA through Samantha Haywood at Transatlantic Literary Agency.
