‘Percy Jackson’ Season 2 Casts Andra Day as Athena

Andra Day will play Athena in Season 2 of "Percy Jackson and the Olympians."

One of the most significant Olympian figures in Rick Riordan's "Percy Jackson" novels is Athena, the Greek goddess of wisdom. She is the mother of Annabeth Chase (Leah Sava Jeffries), a fellow demigod and close friend of Percy (Walker Scobell).

Day played the title role in Lee Daniels' 2021 biopic "The United States vs. Billie Holiday," marking her acting debut. She received a Grammy for best soundtrack, a Golden Globe for best drama actress, and an Oscar nomination for lead actress for the movie.

In addition, she starred in the 2024 movies "Exhibiting Forgiveness" and "The Deliverance," the latter of which Daniels also directed. She was well-known for her R&B singing before she played Billie Holliday. The albums "Cheers to the Fall," which came out in 2015, and "Cassandra (Cherith)," which came out in 2024, are included in her discography.

As a 12-year-old modern demigod in Season 1 of "Percy Jackson," Percy is still adjusting to his newfound abilities when he embarks on a journey across America with his new friends Grover (Aryan Simhadri) and Annabeth to halt the approaching gods' war. In Season 2, Percy "returns to Camp Half-Blood one year later to find his world turned upside down," according to the official logline. Grover has vanished, his friendship with Annabeth is deteriorating, he finds out he has a cyclops for a brother, and Kronos' forces are besieging the camp. Percy's quest to make amends will lead him off the map and into the perilous Sea of Monsters, where the son of Poseidon faces an unknown destiny.

Prior to being shared on social media, Day's casting was revealed during a virtual panel at Disney's D23 Expo in Brazil. Below is a video of Day speaking to "Percy Jackson" fans.
