The final Ice Age film, Collision Ahead!, was released in 2016 and grossed $408.5 million worldwide. The series has proven its mettle, with the first Ice Age film hitting cinemas in 2002. There are also several short films and series featuring the various woolly mammoths, giant sloths, sabre-toothed cats, and other prehistoric creatures featured in the film, as well as a 2022 spinoff, Buck Wild's Ice Age Adventure. Audiences received the film better than critics, with the final episode receiving just an 18% "fresh" rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Disney has not provided an update on when Ice Age 6 will be released in theaters. Since the series began, there have been major changes in the company that produces the films. In 2017, Disney announced plans to acquire most of 21st Century Fox's film and television business, including the rights to franchises such as "The Simpsons," "X-Men," "Alien," and "Ice Age." The sale was completed in 2019. The new Ice Age will be the first film in the series to be released in theaters under Disney's umbrella. Here's a video announcing the production of "Ice Age 6," which shows Romano braving the arctic cold in a winter coat and blanket.
