Tom Cruise, Alejandro G. Iñárritu Film at Warner Bros. and Legendary Sets U.K. Shoot

The film starring Tom Cruise, which will be produced by Legendary Entertainment and Warner Bros. and directed by Alejandro González Iárritu, is scheduled to begin filming in the United Kingdom. Although the beginning date has not yet been established, Variety understands that it could begin as early as the following month.

The untitled task would be Iñárritu's most memorable English-language film since "The Revenant." Iárritu will produce and direct the movie, which will be based on a script he co-wrote with Sabina Berman and Nicolas Giacobone and Alexander Dinelaris from "Birdman" in 2023. The cast also includes John Goodman, Sandra Hüller, Michael Stuhlbarg, Jesse Plemons, and Sophie Wilde. This will be Cruise's first film since he signed a contract in January to develop and produce theatrical films with Warner Bros. Discovery. A decade ago, he worked on "Edge of Tomorrow," the studio's final project.

Cruise made his most recent appearance in "Mission: Top Gun: The Last Stand and Impossible – Dead Reckoning Maverick.” The eighth "Mission: Impossible" is one of Cruise's other upcoming films. Doug Liman will become "the first civilian to do a spacewalk" outside the International Space Station in a forthcoming Universal action film for Paramount and Mission Impossible: Fallout.

Iñárritu won consecutive Foundation Grants for coordinating "Birdman" in 2015 and "The Revenant" in 2016. He followed up with 2017's "Flesh and Sand" (also known as "Carne y Arena"), a virtual reality short that showed migrants riding a coyote across the U.S.-Mexico border. In 2017, the project premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, and in 2018, it won an Oscar for special achievement. In 2022, he co-composed, co-scored, altered, created and coordinated "Bardo: False Chronicle of a Handful of Truths," for which the film received a nomination for best cinematography at the Academy Awards.

Journey and Iñárritu are both addressed by CAA.
