The Running Man, directed by Edgar Wright, will be released on November 21, 2025. The new version of the 1987 sci-fi film starring Arnold Schwarzenegger is produced by Wright, Simon Kinberg, and Nira Park.
The untitled Naked Gun reboot movie from the studio will now open in theaters on August 1, 2025, instead of July 18, 2025. The comedy is directed by Akiva Schaffer and produced by Seth MacFarlane and Erica Huggins. In the film franchise that began with the first installment in 1988, Liam Neeson plays Detective Frank Drebin. Leslie Nielsen originally played the role. Pamela Anderson and Paul Walter Hauser co-star in the new film. Beneath the Storm, an animated sequel to DreamWorks Animation's Phoebe Dynevor shark thriller, will compete with Naked Gun on August 1, 2025. Universal Paramount's untitled Smurfs animated musical film, directed by Chris Miller, will replace Naked Gun on July 18, 2025. The release of the film, based on the characters and artwork of artist Peyo, was initially set for February 14, 2025.
Rihanna, Nick Offerman, Natasha Lyonne, Nick Kroll, James Corden, Octavia Spencer, Hannah Waddingham, Sandra Oh, and Kurt Russell all lend their voices to the Smurfs project. It will now have to compete with Sony's reboot of I Know What You Did Last Summer, which will also be released on July 18, 2025.
The release date of Dakota Fanning's Vicious has been moved to Feb. 28, 2025. The horror film directed by Bryan Bertino was originally scheduled to open on August 8, 2025. Additionally, the recent festival darling September 5 opens in select theaters on November 29, 2024, before opening nationwide on December 13. This release plan for Tim Felhbaum's historical drama about the 1972 Munich Olympics terrorist attack was previously reported on by The Hollywood Reporter. The film is produced by Philipp Trauer, Thomas Wöbke, Tim Fehlbaum, Sean Penn, John Ira Palmer, and John Wildermuth and stars Peter Sarsgaard.
