Dolores Conchita Figueroa del Rivero was brought into the world in Washington, D.C. on Jan. 23, 1933. Pedro, a Puerto Rican saxophonist, passed away when she was 7 from cancer. Her Irish mother, Katherine Anderson del Rivero, raised her.
