In Nielsen's May Gauge snapshot, the streaming device manufacturer's programming outlet ranks second only to NBCUniversal's Peacock in the rankings of individual streaming services, behind fellow FAST services Tubi and Pluto TV. The Roku Channel received 1.1 percent of all TV use for the month. In May, Tubi was used by 1.3% of people, while Pluto TV was used by 0.9%.
For the seventh consecutive month, streaming as a whole commanded the largest share of TV viewing time, accounting for 36.4% of usage, up from 34% in April. A change in how Nielsen rates streaming through cable set-top boxes is a part of that growth. Previously, streaming from a set-top box was all included in the "other TV use" category; however, as of May, programs that are identified as streaming originals are now included in both the streaming category and the individual platform.
In comparison to April, cable (31.1 percent of TV use) and broadcast networks (22.8 percent) both saw slight decreases. All platforms' TV use decreased by 4.4% from the previous month, which is fairly typical for late spring.
