Reiner was honored for his role in *The Bear*, which he was nominated for after his death.
Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Reiner, were violently killed in their home in Los Angeles last December.Their son, Nick Reiner, has been charged with the murders and has not pleaded guilty.
When presenting the award, Wendi McLendon-Covey told the audience, “It’s appropriate to stand for this one.” The crowd gave the win a standing ovation.
She added, “I know we all wish Rob could be here tonight.”
Betty Gilpin won for her role in *Widow’s Bay* on Apple.
Her acceptance speech was a highlight of the night because it was delivered in poem form.She started by thanking her date, Alison Brie, who used to act with her in *Glow*.
Two other guest acting awards were given out earlier in the evening.
Shailene Woodley won the guest actress in a drama series category for her part in *Paradise*.This was the show’s first Emmy win.Ernest Harden Jr.won the guest actor in a drama series award for his role in *The Pitt*.
The Creative Arts Emmys happen over two days, usually a week before the Primetime Emmys.
This year, the usually behind-the-scenes awards included five categories that were previously given during the Primetime ceremony.Those included best supporting actor and actress in a limited or anthology series.
Sunday’s awards were not shown live.
Instead, the ceremonies from Saturday and Sunday will be broadcast together on Saturday, September 12.The 78th Emmy Awards, hosted by Mariska Hargitay, will air live on NBC on September 14.
