The trailer for the third "Spider-Verse" movie, which is set to be in theaters on June 18, 2027, appeared online on Twitter/X this week.
Co-writer and producer Chris Miller said he wasn't happy about the leak, writing, "Not a fan of unfinished, not fully rendered footage."
"Beyond the Spider-Verse" is the newest high-profile movie to experience a leak.
In the past month, two big-budget films, "The Odyssey" and "Spider-Man: Brand New Day," both leaked onto X after their official releases. This isn’t the first time a "Spider-Man" movie has been targeted; the trailer for 2021’s "Spider-Man: No Way Home" also leaked weeks before it was officially released online.
Earlier this year, the full version of "Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender" also leaked on X months before it was supposed to come out on Paramount+.
A 26-year-old man was later arrested in Singapore for hacking into a media server and leaking the film. The "Avatar Aang" cast and the original "Last Airbender" stars spoke out against the leak and asked fans not to watch the unauthorized version.
Eric Nam, one of the stars, told Variety at Comic-Con after the leak, "There’s something about respecting the intentions of the creators and many artists who poured years of their life into this.
To go about it the proper way is a very respectful way of showing appreciation to the art form and to the many, many, countless hours put into this.Thank you guys for waiting."
After several delays, "Beyond the Spider-Verse" will bring Miles Morales’ story as Spider-Man to a close.
The first footage was shown only at CinemaCon earlier this year.
