Sam Neill, ‘Jurassic Park’ Star, Dies at 78

Sam Neill, the actor famous for "Jurassic Park" and other big movies, has passed away.He was 78 years old.

The New Zealand actor died suddenly on Monday in Sydney, Australia, according to his family's post on social media.

They said, "It is with great sadness that the whānau of Sam Neill share the news of his passing on Monday, July 13th, in Sydney, Australia.

Sam was with his family and passed away with the dignity that has always been part of his life." They also mentioned, "The loss was sudden and unexpected, but it was comforting to know that Sam had not been affected by cancer."

The family thanked the staff at St Vincent's Private Hospital for their amazing care.

They said they would share more details later, but for now, they asked people to respect their privacy as they deal with this big loss.

Sam was born on September 14, 1947, in Northern Ireland.

He is best known for playing Dr.Alan Grant in "Jurassic Park," "Jurassic Park III," and "Jurassic World Dominion" in 2022.He also acted in other popular films like "My Brilliant Career," "Omen III," "Possession," "Sleeping Dogs," "The Hunt for Red October," "The Piano," and "Event Horizon." He also had roles in TV shows such as "The Tudors," "Apples Never Fall," "Peaky Blinders," and "Reilly, Ace of Spies."

During his career, he was nominated for three Golden Globes and two Emmys, and he won a Logie and an AACTA Award.

He was diagnosed with blood cancer in March 2022.


Sam is survived by four children and eight grandchildren.
