The Russo Brothers Just Revealed the Secret Behind How ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Plans to Outdo ‘Endgame’

"Avengers: Endgame" is still one of the most emotionally powerful endings in big movie history. It was so impactful that fans were left wondering if the Marvel Cinematic Universe could ever reach that level again.Seven years later, that question is still there when new Avengers news comes out, especially with the next movie promising to bring back people fans didn’t think would ever appear in the same film. The pressure to make something just as big and important has only gotten bigger as we get closer to the release date.

That pressure is on Joe and Anthony Russo, the directors who made "Avengers: Infinity War" and "Avengers: Endgame" huge hits before they left the franchise.

They came back after announcing that Robert Downey Jr.would play Victor Von Doom in their new movies "Avengers: Doomsday" and "Avengers: Secret Wars." That news shocked fans right away.Just the casting of Doom made people question whether anything could match the scale of what came before.

In an interview with CBR, Joe Russo talked about how he plans to do that.

He said that focusing on the characters' inner feelings, not just making things bigger, is what will make "Doomsday" different from the past films. That’s a much quieter approach than what fans might expect from a movie with a villain like Doctor Doom.

He noted that both "Doomsday" and "Secret Wars" have been harder to work on than any other Marvel films, because expectations keep growing with every new hint or tease.

Still, Doctor Doom hasn’t been built up like Thanos was before "Infinity War," since the character has only been in the story briefly so far and the Multiverse plot is still mostly unknown.

That might make it harder to sell the idea of emotional complexity for a villain that audiences are still getting to know.

Marvel has at least confirmed that there will be a lot of action to help fill in those gaps.

"Avengers: Doomsday" is set for theaters on December 18, with a cast that includes Chris Hemsworth, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach, who are returning from "The Fantastic Four." Chris Evans is also back as Steve Rogers. That lineup has kept fans guessing for months.

Marvel is even bringing back "Avengers: Endgame" to theaters before the new movie, framing it as a link between the two stories.

Whether nostalgia and deep emotions can really take the place of the years of buildup that Thanos had is exactly what fans will be talking about once Doctor Doom finally takes center stage. So, tell us whether you think Joe Russo’s plan to focus on emotional complexity can actually achieve the impossible and beat "Endgame."
