On Tuesday, Apple Studios held a big event in Los Angeles, taking over Santa Monica's Barker Hangar.
They showed clips and had conversations about the movies they're planning. Stars like Cameron Diaz, Keanu Reeves, Chris Pratt, Amy Adams, Colin Farrell, and others were there to generate excitement with reporters and influencers around the world.
Most of the projects are series, but five full movies were announced.
The first one is "Outcome," directed by Jonah Hill, his third film as a director after "Mid90s" and "Stutz."
"Outcome" stars Keanu Reeves, Cameron Diaz, and Matt Bomer.
It's about a movie star named Reef Hawk who goes off the grid for five years after battling heroin addiction. His handlers, played by Bomer and Diaz, discover a mysterious video that could expose him. The story follows their efforts to find out the video's content, leading to a journey of redemption and seeking forgiveness for past mistakes.
It's interesting to see Hill exploring themes like isolation and public life.
Since 2023, Hill has been in the shadows after his ex-girlfriend, Sarah Brady, released private messages that were viewed as controlling and abusive.
Hill co-wrote "Outcome" with Ezra Woods.
The film asks important questions about what an apology really means and who it helps. An early trailer was shown, including a cameo by Susan Lucci, who plays Reeves' angry mother. The film feels like a modern version of "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back," set in Malibu. It comes to Apple TV globally on April 10.
Next was a quick look at "The Dink," a comedy about pickleball.
The film stars Jake Johnson, Mary Steenburgen, and Ed Harris. Johnson plays a tennis star who gives up tennis after a run-in with Andy Roddick. He goes into pickleball with Steenburgen. He finds new passion and deals with old issues while getting low-impact exercise. Josh Greenbaum, who directed "Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar," is behind the project, which comes out July 24.
Third was "Matchbox The Movie," Mattel Films' second major project since its 2023 relaunch, following "Barbie."
The trailer shows a family-friendly version of "Fast and Furious." It features John Cena, Jessica Biel, Sam Richardson, Teyonah Parris, and Arturo Castro. The film, co-produced by Skydance, hits Apple TV on October 9.
Chris Pratt revealed "The Way of the Warrior Kid," an adaptation of Navy SEAL Jocko Willink's book, which teaches kids about courage.
Pratt plays an uncle to Marc, played by Jude Hill from "Belfast," and helps him learn self-defense and integrity. Linda Cardellini is also in the movie, and McG directs for a November 20 release.
The event ended with a virtual message from Ryan Reynolds and Kenneth Branagh, who are working on "Mayday."
It's a Cold War-era action comedy, a new type of role for Reynolds, who said he finally gets to play a character who needs saving. As a Navy pilot, Reynolds crash-lands on Russian territory and teams up with Branagh's ex-KGB agent to survive and protect American interests. The film comes to Apple TV+ on September 4.
