Tom Cruise Finally Gets His Oscar At Star-Packed Governors Awards Gala In Hollywood
The poster's tagline is "a comedy of catastrophic proportions."
There was some talk that the movie is about a powerful global figure trying to convince everyone he's a savior.
González Iñárritu shared his thoughts at Cannes, saying, "No, the thing that I can tell you.
This is a wild comedy of catastrophic proportions. It's insane. He makes me laugh every day. The range that I discovered working with Tom is unprecedented for me as a director. I was so fu*king impressed and happy."
*Digger* is González Iñárritu's first movie since 2022's *Bardo: False Chronicle of a Handful of Truths* for Netflix.
The Mexico-born filmmaker won the Academy Award for Best Director for the 2015 Leonardo DiCaprio western *The Revenant* and three Oscars for Best Picture, Directing, and Original Screenplay for 2016's *Birdman*, starring Michael Keaton, Emma Stone, Ed Norton, and Zach Galifianakis.
The teaser shows Tom Cruise in cowboy boots dancing with a shovel in what looks like a Los Angeles-type low-rent apartment, and on a pier.
He appears a bit disheveled.
Also opening on October 2, 2026, is *Verity*, from Amazon MGM Studios, directed by Michael Showalter.
It's a feature adaptation of the Colleen Hoover novel, starring Dakota Johnson and Anne Hathaway.
