‘Marty Supreme’ Scores A24’s Best Per-Theater Average Ever With 92 Sold Out Screenings

‘Marty Supreme’ Scores A24’s Best Per-Theater Average Ever With 92 Sold Out Screenings

The A24 thriller grosses $875,000 from six screens in New York and Los Angeles, the best limited release for any film in nine years

Ahead of its wide release on Christmas Day, A24’s “Marty Supreme” opened on six screens in New York and Los Angeles and had a great start, making $875,000 in total.

In fact, it made an average of $145,933 per screen, which is the highest ever for an A24 movie.

It’s also the best average of any film since “La La Land” made $176,220 per screen from five screens in 2016.

A24 reports that on Friday and Saturday alone, “Marty Supreme” sold out 92 showings at theaters like the Alamo Drafthouse in Brooklyn and the AMC Burbank.

Since its surprise world premiere at the New York Film Festival, the film has gotten lots of praise from critics and movie lovers, earning a 95% Rotten Tomatoes score.

But when he loses the final match, his bad decisions lead to problems in his life, including a pregnant girlfriend, debts, and trouble with criminals.

The movie has been promoted heavily, with a big marketing push led by Chalamet.

He showed off a special jacket made for the film and shared it with many celebrities and athletes. A pop-up store in Los Angeles opened to sell the jackets, and fans waited in long lines to get one.

The big question now is whether “Marty Supreme” can reach a bigger audience.

Director Josh Safdie’s previous film, “Uncut Gems,” was loved by movie fans but wasn’t as popular with general audiences, getting a 91% score from critics and only 52% from viewers.

Despite that, “Uncut Gems” still made $50 million at the box office, starting with a five-day opening on Christmas that made just under $20 million.

“Marty Supreme” is hoping for a similar start, aiming for a $15 million opening over four days during the Christmas weekend.

opened on six screens in New York, Los Angeles, and Toronto, making $145,000 for an average of $24,200 per screen. The movie stars Will Arnett and Laura Dern as Alex and Tess, a couple going through a divorce.

Alex, who doesn’t know what to do with his life, starts doing stand-up comedy as a new hobby.

Directed by Bradley Cooper, “Is This Thing On?” has an 89% Rotten Tomatoes score and is planning to expand to six more cities on Christmas weekend.

Finally, the Golden Globe-nominated true-story drama “The Voice of Hind Rajab” was released by indie distributor Willa at the New York Film Forum and the Laemmle Royal in LA, making $50,730 over five days.

The film received the Silver Lion at the Venice Film Festival and was selected as Tunisia’s entry for the Best International Feature Oscar.

It tells the story of Hind Rajab, a five-year-old Palestinian girl who was with her family in Gaza City in January 2024 when their car was hit by an Israeli tank. Paramedics tried to save her for hours, but she and the medics were later killed in further attacks. The movie will be shown in more cities in January.
