Nicolas Cage to Reunite With John Woo for ‘Gambino’ Mafia Boss Biopic

Nicolas Cage, known for his roles in "Longlegs" and "Pig," is set to star in the upcoming crime movie "Gambino." The film is directed by John Woo, who has worked on movies like "The Killer" and "Silent Night." This marks a reunion between Cage and Woo, almost 30 years after their cult action film "Face/Off."

Woo will direct the movie based on a script by George Gallo, who wrote "Bad Boys," and Nick Vallelonga, who won an Oscar for "Green Book."
The project was launched at the AFM, with WME Independent handling the sales.

The movie follows Cage's character, Carlo Gambino, a man from Sicily who grew up as a butcher's son and took control of New York's underworld with quiet strength.
When Gambino dies, it causes a big stir in the city. Pulitzer-winning journalist Jimmy Breslin starts investigating Gambino's life to find out who he really was. As the story says: "Through the voices of those who loved him and those who feared him, Breslin peels back the composure that masked Gambino's ruthlessness, revealing how this outsider rose to redefine power, loyalty, and the American dream."

The movie is produced by Cassian Elwes, Edward Zeng from NextG Films, Robert Daly Jr., and David Lipper from Latigo Films.
NextG Films is financing the project. Cage, Gallo, and Vallelonga are also involved in producing.

Edward Zeng from NextG Films said, "At NextG Film, our vision is to bring together the best creative talents from Hollywood with the bold entrepreneurial spirit of Silicon Valley.
Together, we aim to deliver an epic cinematic experience that brings audiences back to the theater again and again—an experience that not only entertains, but inspires people to think about the world we live in today. Humanity stands at a crossroads. Through powerful storytelling and innovative artistry, we hope to remind everyone that the future is ours to shape, and it is our shared responsibility to make it better."

The news about "Gambino" may excite fans who are hoping that Cage and Woo might work together again on a sequel to "Face/Off," the 1997 action thriller.
In that movie, Cage played a terrorist-for-hire while John Travolta played an FBI agent. In 1999, Paramount announced plans to remake the movie with a new cast, but in 2021 it was reported that Adam Wingard would direct a film that would instead be a sequel to the first.
