Netflix has officially approved *The Boys From Brazil*, a limited series based on Ira Levin's 1976 novel.
Jeremy Strong, who has appeared in *Succession* and *Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere*, will play Yakov Liebermann, a Nazi hunter who discovers that Dr. Josef Mengele, known as the "Angel of Death" from Auschwitz, is trying to bring back the Third Reich. The project has been in the works since February, with Strong already on board.
Other actors joining the cast include August Diehl, Daniel Brühl, Gillian Anderson, Shira Haas, and Lizzy Caplan.
Alex Gabassi, who previously worked on *The Crown* and *Black Doves*, will direct the series. Filming is planned to start in December in the U.K., Bulgaria, and Spain.
Suzanne Mackie, executive producer and founder of Orchid Pictures, which is producing the series with World Productions, part of ITV Studios, said: "Building on his extraordinary work with *The Crown*, Peter continues to examine the political and emotional forces that have shaped the world we live in today.
That he does so through intimate human stories within the broader sweep of history makes his storytelling powerfully relatable. We're thrilled to have assembled such an exceptional team, both in front of and behind the camera, and to be working with the super-talented director, Alex Gabassi again for this new limited series for Netflix. We can't wait to bring Peter Morgan's bold reimagining of Ira Levin's *The Boys From Brazil* to the screen."
*The Boys From Brazil* was previously made into a 1978 film starring Laurence Olivier as Liebermann and Gregory Peck as Mengele.
It was nominated for three Oscars, including for Olivier's performance.
Morgan will executive produce the series with Mackie and Simon Heath from World Productions.
Oona O’Beirn and Andy Stebbing, who previously worked with Morgan on *The Crown*, are also producing.
