Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz are coming back together for another "Mummy" movie.
The film will be directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, who are part of a group called Radio Silence.
They are known for making the movie "Ready or Not" in 2019 and for bringing the "Scream" series back in 2022.
Universal Pictures, which made the original monster movies, didn't say anything about this new project.
Fraser was the main star in the 1999 version of "The Mummy," which also starred Rachel Weisz.
That movie was a big hit and helped make Fraser a popular action star. He was in two more sequels, "The Mummy Returns" in 2001 and "The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor" in 2008. Rachel only appeared in the first one. Universal tried to bring back "The Mummy" with Tom Cruise in 2017, but that movie didn't do well and didn't help start the so-called "Dark Universe" plan, which was meant to connect Universal's classic monster movies into a series.
After taking a break from Hollywood because of personal struggles, health issues, and a lawsuit over an alleged assault against a former HFPA president, Fraser had a big comeback with the movie "The Whale" in 2022, for which he won an Oscar for best actor.
During the promotion for "The Whale," Fraser said he would be open to playing his character Rick O’Connell again in another "Mummy" movie.
"I don't know how it would work," he said at the time.
"But I'd be open to it, if someone came up with the right idea."
Fraser also knows what didn't work with Cruise's version.
In 2022, he explained why Cruise's "Mummy" didn't connect with people.
"It is hard to make that movie," Fraser said.
"The ingredient that we had going for our 'Mummy,' which I didn't see in the new one, was fun. That was what was lacking in that incarnation. It was too much of a straight-ahead horror movie. 'The Mummy' should be a thrill ride, but not terrifying and scary."
