Taylor Swift's latest album sold 2.7 million copies on its first day of release on Friday, making it her biggest sales week so far, according to data from Luminate, as reported by Billboard.
Although the album has been out for less than a week, Showgirl's first-day sales also rank it as the second-largest sales week for any album — just behind Adele's 25, which sold 3.8 million copies in its first week in 2015.
It's important to note that Luminate's data only includes U.S. sales.
Showgirl also holds the record for the most vinyl copies sold in a week, with 1.2 million copies.
Swift set her own previous record with 859,000 vinyl copies of The Tortured Poets Department in 2024.
To celebrate the release, Swift launched a limited theatrical screening of the album's accompanying cinematic experience, called Taylor Swift: The Official Release Party of a Showgirl.
The film was a hit at the box office for the weekend of October 3-5.
In a review for The Hollywood Reporter, TV critic Angie Han wrote, "Playing only one weekend in theaters, the 89-minute cinematic experience — neither a visual album nor a concert film —"
