Ghosts of Tsushima’ Anime Series in the Works for Sony’s Crunchyroll

Crunchyroll revealed a new anime series based on Sucker Punch Productions' well-known video game "Ghost of Tsushima" and its cooperative multiplayer experience "Legends," which unites several Sony businesses.

In 2027, the series will debut exclusively on Crunchyroll. During Sony's 2025 CES press conference in Las Vegas, the announcement was made.

Aniplex, the Sony-owned studio that produces anime shows like "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba," "Solo Leveling," and "Sword Art Online," will work with the production team to create the "Ghost of Tsushima" anime. Director Takanobu Mizuno will oversee the adaptation, while Kamikaze Douga will handle the animation and Gen Urobuchi ("Nitro Plus") will compose the story. The group will vividly depict the classic samurai aesthetics of "Ghost of Tsushima: Legends."

Crunchyroll claims that it is "with cinematic storytelling and striking visuals." The series' strategic music and soundtrack partner will be Sony Music. The cast and creative team are among the other details that have not yet been revealed.

Sucker Punch Productions, a division of Sony Interactive Entertainment, created the open-world action-adventure game "Ghost of Tsushima," which takes place in feudal Japan. The game has sold over 13 million copies worldwide on both consoles and PCs since its release in 2020. Japanese mythology and folklore serve as the inspiration for its cooperative multiplayer "Legends" experience. Sucker Punch revealed last fall that "Ghost of Yōtei," a follow-up to "Ghost of Tsushima," would debut in 2025 and feature a completely different plot with a new protagonist, Atsu.

"This project demonstrates the creative synergy within the Sony family by bringing together the skills of PlayStation Studios and PlayStation Productions, the creative teams of Sucker Punch Productions and Aniplex, Sony Music's renowned global artist roster, and Crunchyroll's fan-first global marketing and distribution footprint," said Rahul Purini, president of Crunchyroll, in a statement. In a daring and innovative anime style, the "Ghost of Tsushima" anime will provide fans with an exciting new way to experience the game.

PlayStation Productions CEO Asad Qizilbash made the following statement: "We are thrilled to reveal our first-ever anime adaptation after demonstrating the great quality and adaptability of our game properties in numerous successful film and television projects. Aniplex is the ideal partner to turn Sucker Punch Productions' popular video game into a breathtaking new anime series, and Ghost of Tsushima's rich, immersive world and its fantastical Legends mode based on Japanese mythology provide the ideal canvas for this project."
