Michael Cera, Emilia Jones Join Glen Powell in ‘The Running Man

For The Running Man, Emilia Jones and Michael Cera are lacing up their shoes.

Both actors have agreed to join Glen Powell in the Edgar Wright-directed Paramount adaptation of the Stephen King novel. The move brings Cera back together with the director of one of his favorite roles, the romantic slacker Scott Pilgrim from the 2010 film Scott Pilgrim vs. the World.

Lee Pace, Love Lies Bleeding's Katy O'Brian, and Josh Brolin are already on the call sheet for the feature film, which will shoot in London at the beginning of next year.

From Mike Flanagan King's Running Man, a 1982 novel written under the pseudonym Richard Bachman and set in an America under a totalitarian regime that uses violent game shows to placate the disenfranchised masses, Amazon is developing a "Carrie" series.

Ben Richards, a desperate man who joins the most popular show, The Running Man, where teams of killers hunt down contestants, joins the show in order to raise money for his sick daughter. A contestant earns more money the longer they survive. But this desperate man will break all the rules and reveal the show's dark secrets, as the producers and killers of the game show will discover.

In contrast to Powell's Richards, Jones will play a privileged woman who is blind to the government's oppression.

Cera will play a guileless revolutionary who attempts to help the frantic man.

O'Brian will play one of the contestants on the show, Brolin plays the ruthless producer, and Pace plays the brutal chief hunter who is looking for Powell's character.

The movie will be released on Nov. 21, 2025, by Paramount. Wright, Nira Park, and Simon Kinberg are producing.

Scott Pilgrim Takes Off, an acclaimed animated series on Netflix, featured Cera reprising his Pilgrim role last year. The actor starred alongside Amy Schumer in the Hulu dramedy Life & Beth and had a standout cameo in Barbie.

Since CODA's Oscar wins, Jones has starred in a number of independent films, including 2023's Cat Person, directed by Susanna Fogel, and Winner, in which she plays former US Air Force office Reality Winner. Jones was one of the stars of Netflix's Locke & Key series.

CAA, Thruline Entertainment, and Lichter Grossman represent Cera. CAA, Brillstein Entertainment Partners, and UK's Artist Rights Group represent Jones.
