At the 81st Venice Film Festival, Pedro Almodóvar's "The Room Next Door" was awarded the Golden Lion. The Spanish auteur's most memorable component in English claimed the top reward at the honors function on Saturday, where he acknowledged the distinction face to face. In light of Sigrid Nunez's book "What Are You Going Through," the film stars Tilda Swinton and Julianne Moore as companions who rejoin following quite a while.
The drama was still expected to do well at the Venice awards, despite the fact that the most recent Almodóvar film received less favorable reviews than the majority of his works (a high bar to meet). It received a warm reception even from festival audiences, receiving a nearly 20-minute standing ovation when it premiered earlier this week. The director of "All About My Mother," "Talk to Her," "Volver," "Bad Education," and "Parallel Mothers" is regarded as a living legend by many European cinephiles.
The jury, led by Isabelle Huppert, chose the competition category winners. Maura Delepero's Vermiglio won the Silver Lion Grand Jury Prize, Brady Corbet won the Silver Lion for Best Director for "The Brutalist," Dea Kulumbegashvili won the Special Jury Prize for "April," and Murilo Hauser and Heitor Lorega won the Silver Lion for Best Screenplay for "I'm Still Here," which was directed by Walter Salles. Vincent Lindon won the Volpi Cup for best actor for "The Quiet Son," and Nicole Kidman won the Volpi Cup for best actress for "Babygirl." Director Halina Reijn read a statement on Kidman's behalf because the actress was unable to attend due to her mother's death.)
Pablo Larran's "Maria," starring Angelina Jolie as the legendary opera diva Maria Callas, was one of the more well-known competitors in the competition category that did not win. To a great extent very much explored, the film was viewed as a re-visitation of structure for Jolie as an entertainer, whose keep going on-screen execution was in 2021's "Eternals." In a similar vein, Daniel Craig's performance in Luca Guadagnino's "Queer," a period drama based on a William S. Burroughs novel, did not win any awards. "Joker:" by Todd Phillips also did. Folie à Deux," although that was less surprising considering the film's mixed reviews.
The films "The New Year That Never Came" (Best Film), "Familiar Touch" (Best Director), "The New Year That Never Came" (Best Film), "The New Year That Never Came" (Best Film), "The New Year That Never Came" (Best Film), "The New Year That Never Came" (Best Film), "The New Year That Never Came" (Best Film), "Familiar Touch" (Best Director), "Familiar Touch" (Best Actor
The 90-minute ceremony started with Venice Immersive and ended with Venice Documentary on Cinema, both of which moved at a pleasant pace. Friedland's "Familiar Touch" also won the Luigi de Laurentiis Award for Best Debut Film.
