HBO has stated that it has "decided to part ways" with the actor and will recast the role for the show's upcoming third season, which is scheduled to begin filming this month in Thailand. Bikovi's casting was criticized by Ukraine's Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the actor's apparent support for Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
In a Jan. 24 online entertainment post, the service expressed, "HBO, is everything ideal for you to work with an individual who upholds slaughter and disregards global regulation?" over a video of Bikovi's remarks regarding Ukraine and the annexation of Crimea. Biković has worked in Russia for as far back as decade; In 2018, he was given an award by Vladimir Putin, and in 2021, he became a citizen of Russia.
In his very own proclamation, Biković said, "I was respected to be decided to be a piece of White Lotus, a television series that I respect and with partners whom I profoundly regard. However, I will not submit to any narrative that seeks to compromise my integrity because my participation is not possible for reasons outside of the realm of art. I might want to thank each and every individual who remained by me. I wish my coworkers every success in producing the following season.
