The Nun II’ Topples ‘Equalizer 3’ With Scary Good $32.6 Million in Box Office

This sister is too strong for Denzel Washington.

This past weekend, "The Nun II" took the top spot at the box office with $32.6 million from 3,728 theaters. That was more than enough to knock Sony's "The Equalizer 3," starring Denzel Washington as an enigmatic vengeful angel, down from first place last weekend. The Adjuster 3" piled up more than $12.1 million in its second end of the week to push its homegrown gross to $61.9 million. The action sequel made $107.7 million worldwide, surpassing $100 million at the box office.

However noteworthy, "The Religious recluse II," which is the 10th section in Warner Brothers.' progressing "Conjuring" series, couldn't match the high-water mark set by its 2018 ancestor "The Sister," which opened with $53.8 million. Taissa Farmiga and Bonnie Aarons reprise their roles as Sister Irene and the Nun in the film. Newcomers Jonas Bloquet, Storm Reid, and Anna Popplewell complete the cast of frequently habit-wearing characters. Michael Chaves, who coordinated "The Scourge of La Llorona" and "The Conjuring: For this installment, “The Devil Made Me Do It” slipped behind the camera.

The third new wide release of the weekend, "My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3," opened with $10 million. Nia Vardalos, who also stars alongside John Corbett, wrote and directed the film. The film is being distributed in North America by Focus Features, while Universal Pictures International has territories overseas. The eccentric Portokalos family travels to Greece for a family reunion in the comedy series' third chapter.

"Jawan," an Indian Hindi-language activity thrill ride, took fourth spot with $6.2 million. In the movie, Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan plays both a father and a son. It was coordinated by Atlee.

"Barbie," the Warner Brothers. satire that overwhelmed the late spring film industry, balanced the main five, earning $5.9 million. That carries its homegrown all out to a conspicuous pink $620.5 million.
