HBO has finished producing The Idol.
The questionable series from Elation maker Sam Levinson and Abel Tesfaye, otherwise called The Weeknd, won't be returning briefly season.
It's anything but an immense shock given the basic and business gathering of the show, which featured Tesfaye and Lily-Rose Depp. In addition, it was the result of extensive reshoots following Amy Seimetz's departure, as revealed by Deadline in April 2022, as well as a reduced order, bringing the total number of episodes to five.
A portion of the cast referenced the chance of a second season during interviews, however show insiders said that makers didn't come into the creation cycle with an arrangement for a multi-season bend.
Da'Vine Bliss Randolph, who played one of the chiefs of Depp's pop star Jocelyn, recently said that the principal season was left deliberately unassuming for the chance of a second.
An HBO spokesperson stated, "We're pleased by the strong audience response." The Idol was one of HBO's most provocative original programs. After much thought and thought, HBO, as well as the makers and makers, have chosen not to push ahead with a subsequent season. We're appreciative to the makers, cast, and team for their mind blowing work."
HBO just delivered seeing information for the initial two episodes. HBO and Max said that the first episode had a same-day audience of 913,000, while the second episode only had 800,000. HBO claims that the decrease in Week 2 was caused by linear viewing rather than Max viewing. This makes sense given that the series probably targeted a younger demographic than the typical linear TV viewer.
Nielsen reported at the time that Max viewers of The Idol were 21 years younger than HBO viewers, a larger gap than for typical HBO dramas.
Following seven days on Max, seeing for the primary episode had swelled to 3.6M. HBO said that dominated the series debuts for both The White Lotus (3M in 2021) and Rapture (3.3M in 2019) in a similar time span. Euphoria had a 6.6 million average episodic audience by the end of the first season. Concerning The White Lotus, its Season 1 episodes developed to around 9.3M watchers.
In any case, while basic and crowd gathering of Rapture and The White Lotus to a great extent was positive, the equivalent can't be said to describe The Icon. The show received overwhelmingly negative feedback when the final episode aired just a month later. It's likely that this had a significant impact on viewing habits.
Here is the logline: Jocelyn (Depp) is determined to assert her rightful position as the greatest and sexiest pop star in America after her last tour was derailed by a nervous breakdown. Tedros (Tesfaye), a nightclub owner with a shady past, reignites her passions. Will her heartfelt arousing take her to heavenly new levels or the most profound and haziest profundities of her spirit?
Along with Randolph, Dan Levy, Eli Roth, Hari Nef, Jane Adams, Jennie Ruby Jane, Mike Dean, Moses Sumney, Rachel Sennott, Ramsey, Suzanna Son, and Hank Azaria, Troye Sivan also appeared in the role of a lead.
For Bron and Sara E. White, Levinson, Tesfaye, and Fahim worked as executive producers alongside Kevin Turen, Ashley Levinson, Joseph Epstein, and Aaron L. Gilbert. Levinson additionally coordinated. The series was created in association with A24.
