Julian Sands Search Update: Human Remains Found on Mountain Where Actor Was Last Seen

The San Bernardino Sheriff's office made the announcement on Saturday that hikers discovered human remains in the area of Mt. Baldy where Julian Sands went missing in January. However, the actor from "Warlock" and "A Room with a View" has not yet been identified by the body.

The sheriff's office shared on social media on Saturday evening, "After they discovered human remains in the Mt. Baldy wilderness, civilian hikers contacted the Fontana Sheriff's Station at approximately 10:00 a.m.." The scene was attended to by deputies from Fontana Station and the Emergency Operations Division of the Sheriff's Department. In the event that a successful identification was made, the deceased was taken to the Coroner's Office. We will update this press release when identification is finished next week. At this time, no additional information is available.”

“We continue to hold Julian in our hearts, with bright memories of him as a wonderful father, husband, explorer, lover of the natural world and the arts, and as an original and collaborative performer,” his family said in a statement released the day before the discovery.

The English character actor, best known for his roles in "The Killing Fields" and "Boxing Helena," went missing in mid-January after not coming back from a hike in the San Gabriel Mountains somewhere along the Baldy Bowl Trail in Mt. Baldy. His disappearance occurred during unusually prolonged and severe weather conditions in the Southern California region.

On January 13, cellphone data showed that Sands was heading toward Mount Baldy's summit. The provider's subsequent attempts to ping the 65-year-old were unsuccessful. A spokesperson for the San Bernardino County Sheriff's office told TheWrap at the time that the area had been deemed "extremely dangerous even for the skilled hiker" and that hikers should avoid it.

In the search that resumed on Saturday, more than 80 volunteers, deputies, and other individuals joined two helicopter and drone teams.

The news that a body was discovered on Saturday has not prompted a response from the family.
