Kate Winslet, Netflix’s ‘Dahmer’ Among the Winners at BAFTA TV Awards 2023

At the BAFTA TV Awards on Sunday evening, Kate Winslet, Sharon Horgan, and Ben Whishaw were among the winners of the top prizes.

The comedians Romesh Ranganathan and Rob Beckett served as the ceremony's hosts at the Royal Festival Hall in London.

For her performance in the movie "I Am Ruth," which also starred her real-life daughter Mia Threapleton, Winslet won the award for best leading actress. Threapleton was moved to tears when the pair accepted the award for best single drama. Winslet added, "We did this together kiddo," as she accepted the leading actress award. There were days when it was misery for [Threapleton] to dig as profoundly as she did and it blew my mind."

As she accepted the award for best drama on behalf of Apple TV+ series "Bad Sisters," Horgan thanked her writers. Anne-Marie Duff also won the award for best supporting actress. Horgan noted that it had also been a "bit of a year for the Irish and women of a certain age and I’m in that Venn diagram, right in the middle." "We’re in solidarity to our WGA brothers and sisters," he said. "It all begins and ends with the writers."

Even though Nicôle Lecky's "Mood" won the award for best miniseries and Ben Whishaw's "This Is Going to Hurt" didn't, he accepted the award for best leading actor for the show, beating out Cillian Murphy and Gary Oldman. Whishaw was also the voice of Paddington in Queen Elizabeth II's Paddington Bear skit, which won the public's only prize for most memorable moment. The skit came out on top of other nominees like "Stranger Things'" "Running Up That Hill" scene and "Heartstopper's" first kiss with Nick and Charlie.

The shocking documentary about athlete Mo Farah, which revealed that he had been smuggled into the United Kingdom as a child, won best documentary, and the BBC's coverage of the Platinum Jubilee also won a BAFTA for best live event.

Adeel Akhtar won the award for best supporting actor for his performance in "Sherwood," and Netflix's "Dahmer" won the award for best series in the international category.

Additionally, the host of the BBC gameshow "The Traitors," Claudia Winkleman, won two awards, one for best entertainment performance and the other for best reality and constructed factual.
