George R.R. Martin Praises ‘Dark, Visceral’ ‘House of the Dragon’: ‘Just the Way I Like My Fantasy’

The debut of the forthcoming "Round of Thrones" Targaryens-focused side project series "Place of the Dragon" hasn't set a precise date, yet we know it's dropping at some point in mid 2022. In light of George R.R. Martin's 2018 book "Fire and Blood," "Place of the Dragon" will recount the narrative of the House of Targaryen (otherwise called the House that gave us the Mother of Dragons herself, Daenerys Targaryen) and occur 300 years before the occasions of the first "Round of Thrones" series. And keeping in mind that we don't know precisely when the series is hitting, creator Martin has shared his initial feelings of the 10-episode series: He cherished it.

As he composed on his blog named Not a Blog, "I must admit, I was chuffed to peruse that the most expected new show, as per IMDB, was… (drum roll, if it's not too much trouble, 'Place OF THE DRAGON'! That is an amazing rundown to be at the highest point of, as well. Amazon's new Tolkien series? Neil Gaiman's 'Sandman'? Wonder shows? 'Star Wars' shows?"

He proceeded, "[Executive producers] Ryan [J. Condal] and Miguel [Sapochnik] have worked really hard, and the cast… similarly as with 'Round of Thrones,' most watchers will just have known about a couple of the entertainers, yet I think you will go gaga for a ton of them. (Just to have your heart broken some other time when… however no, that would be telling)."

The "Place of the Dragon" highlights cast individuals Matt Smith, Emma D'Arcy, Olivia Cooke, Paddy Considine, Sonoya Mizuno, Rhys Ifans, and that's just the beginning. Cooke stars as Alicent Hightower, the girl of Hand of the King Otto Hightower. Alicent is depicted by HBO as "the most attractive lady in the Seven Kingdoms. She was brought up in the Red Keep, near the ruler and his deepest circle, and has both a cultured beauty and a sharp political astuteness." Considine plays King Viserys I Targaryen, while Smith plays Prince Daemon.
