Knight said, “I’m really excited to announce this new part of the Peaky Blinders story.
It will be set in Birmingham again and will show how the city rebuilds after the bombings during WWII. The new Shelby family members are taking charge, and it’s going to be a wild journey.”
The new show will have two seasons, each with six episodes.
The original Peaky Blinders series first aired on BBC Two in 2013, and Netflix later got the rights to show it in the U.S.
The story is set in Britain, 1953.
After being heavily bombed during WWII, Birmingham starts to rebuild using concrete and steel. In this new chapter of the Peaky Blinders, the Shelby family is at the center of a fierce competition over the city’s major rebuilding project. The city offers big chances and big dangers, with the Shelbys at the heart of it, according to the producers.
The new show will be filmed at Digbeth Loc.
Studios in Birmingham. It will be produced by Banijay UK’s Kudos and Garrison Drama, which also made the upcoming Peaky Blinders movie, directed by Tom Harper, and currently in production.
The movie takes place during WWII and follows the six-season Peaky Blinders series.
It stars Oscar winner Cillian Murphy, Paul Anderson, Helen McCrory, Tom Hardy, and Joe Cole.
Mona Qureshi from Netflix said, “We are super excited to start this new chapter of Peaky Blinders with our great partners at Kudos, Garrison Drama, and the BBC.
Steven Knight is one of the best storytellers today, and we can’t wait to see him bring the new Shelby family and the streets of Birmingham to life. We’re ready for this new adventure with our global audience.”
The original Peaky Blinders series ended with season six in 2022, just before Murphy starred in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, which won an Academy Award.
Lindsay Salt, director of BBC Drama, added, “This groundbreaking show had a huge impact when it first came on screens 12 years ago and is one of the BBC’s most-loved dramas.
Steven has done it again with his brilliant writing, and I can’t wait for his scripts to come to life when filming starts in Birmingham. It’s a big hit for Peaky fans to look forward to!”
The executive producers of the new series are Cillian Murphy, Karen Wilson, Martin Haines, Jamie Glazebrook, Jo McClellan, Mona Qureshi, and Toby Bentley.
