‘One Battle After Another’ Leads 2025 Gotham Film Awards Nominees

Yes, yes, it might only be October, but awards season is already here. The 2025 Gotham Film Award nominees have been announced, recognizing "visionary talent in front of and behind the camera." The ceremony usually happens the first week of December, so the Gothams are the first big awards event of the year. These nominees can give a good idea of which movies and people are gaining attention.

This year's nominees are led by Paul Thomas Anderson's "One Battle After Another," which received six nominations.

Other notable films include "Train Dreams," "If I Had Legs I'd Kick You," "Sorry, Baby," "East of Wall," "Familiar Touch," "Hamnet," "It Was Just an Accident," and several other indie films.

In announcing the nominations, Jeffrey Sharp, Executive Director of The Gotham Film & Media Institute, said: "This year's nominees celebrate an extraordinary year of cinematic achievement—one defined by bold, original storytelling, festival breakouts, and filmmakers whose independent vision extends across studios and streamers.

This year's Gotham nominees, and our Gotham Tributes, reflect the year's most accomplished filmmakers and performers and embody the community that has defined The Gothams for 35 years."

For the first time in its history, this year's Gotham nominees include 10 Best Feature picks.

In previous years, the category had only five nominees, but it was expanded for the 2025 season to include up to 10. Some films didn't make the list because they weren't submitted in time, including two recent NYFF premieres, Josh Safdie's "Marty Supreme" and Bradley Cooper's "Is This Thing On?" which weren't finished in time to be considered.

The nominees are chosen by committees of film critics, journalists, festival programmers, and film curators.

Separate juries of writers, directors, actors, producers, editors, and other film industry professionals will decide the final winners. This year's nominating committees included IndieWire's Editorial Director Kate Erbland and Chief Film Critic David Ehrlich.

The Gotham Awards have also announced several special honors, including the Director Tribute for Noah Baumbach in honor of his latest film "Jay Kelly," a Spotlight Tribute for Tessa Thompson, star and producer of "Hedda," the Vanguard Tribute for Guillermo del Toro's "Frankenstein," and an Ensemble Tribute for the cast of "Sinners."

The winners of the 35th Annual Gotham Film Awards will be honored at the ceremony at Cipriani Wall Street on Monday, December 1.
