Warner Bros. has started filming in Seoul for the Korean version of The Intern, the popular 2015 workplace comedy that starred Robert De Niro and Anne Hathaway.
This is the first project to come out of Warner Bros. Discovery's new first-look agreement with Jack Nguyen, a long-time Asia executive and the head of his company JOAT Films.

The local version is directed by Kim Do-young, who is known for the feminist film Kim Ji-young: Born 1982.
He is starring Choi Min-sik in the role of the experienced intern, similar to De Niro's character, and Han So-hee as the young CEO. Choi is a famous actor known for his powerful performance in Park Chan-wook's Oldboy and has worked in both stage and film. Han, on the other hand, became famous for her role in the hit K-drama romance The World of the Married and has since appeared in Netflix's My Name and Disney+'s Soundtrack #1.

The original Intern was a big hit in Korea, making $24 million after its local release in September 2015 — a great achievement for a Hollywood workplace comedy.
Warner Bros. Korea is co-producing the remake with JOAT Films and Anthology Studios, a Seoul-based production company founded by producer Jay Choi (The Attorney, The Age of Shadows). Filming started in September and will continue through December.

The remake is also the first project under Warner Bros.
Discovery's new deal with Nguyen, who has been with the company for a long time in the region. As part of the first-look agreement announced last year, Nguyen is creating Asia-focused films for the studio, especially reimagining Hollywood movies in local languages.

Warner Bros. has had a great year at the Korean box office.
They released Apple Original Films' Brad Pitt movie F1, which has made $39 million locally and is the biggest film of 2025 in South Korea. The race movie will need to keep its momentum to stay on top, as the Japanese anime Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle is close behind with $38.6 million and rising.
