Netflix doubled his global anime strategy over the weekend, unveiling many new titles and fresh film material during his shop window at the Anime Expo in Los Angeles. The company also shares updated audience data, highlighting the distance that Japanese anime has expanded from its previous niche to the global content category of the Power Package.
According to Netflix, over 50% of its members encourage 150 million households or an estimated 300 million viewers. According to the company, viewers of anime on the platform have tripled over the past five years. 2024 marked a record year. 33 anime titles have appeared in Netflix's global top 10 (not English) rankings, more than twice as many as 2021.
The streamer also revealed that in 2024, the anime content has been viewed over a billion times worldwide, with 80-90% of users having decided to sync the anime. To use demand, Netflix offers animated titles with the audio mentioned and descriptions in up to 33 languages.
Upcoming Streamer Slate is Sakamoto Day, a Hitman Family action series based on popular manga. The first season of the title spent 10 weeks in Netflix's global top 10 in 54 countries, including Japan, Korea, France and Argentina. A new weekly episode will begin streaming on July 14th. Another top-class publication is Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2. This is a continuation of the 2022 dystopian series from Studio Trigger, performing in the granular universe of CD Project Red Cyberpunk 2077 video games. At Anime Expo, Netflix created its first teaser and new key art for follow-up.
For global fans of cute culture, Netflix will premiere My Melody & Kuromi on July 24th. The Stop-Motion series brings SanRios' beloved characters to an original adventure where they have to save their home Mariland from imminent threats.
Other animated titles that frustrated at Anime Expo included Ragnarok III, the final season of Beaster, and a record of fragrant flower blossoms. Netflix highlights the continued growth of this genre over demographic data and regions, discovering recent anime hit action (Jujutsu Kaisen, Spy X Family), SF (Gundam: Requiem for Revenge), Fantasy (Dungeon in Dungeon), and Slice-of-Life-Roman (My Happy Marriage).
