Gene Hackman Will Be Recognized During Oscars Telecast

Oscar pays tribute to Hackman at Sunday's show, which takes place just four days after the body of the actor and his wife were found at his Santa Fe, New Mexico home.

Those who work on the show and have knowledge of the planning said The Ewrap said the late actor, a five-time Oscar nominee and two winners, will receive homage to the show. The film was usually blocked a week or two before the show, but is thought to be likely to be added to the Memorial Segment ceremony.

The Academy never made its preliminary statement about who was included in the memo, and when Theewrap asked if Hackman would be the last minute, it declined to comment.

The legendary actor, who passed away at the age of 95, was nominated for Best Actor for his French connection and the Burning of Mississippi. He retracted his acting in 2004.

The bodies of Hackman and his wife Betsy Arakawa were found Wednesday after maintenance workers answered the door to their residence when they arrived. Investigators say they may have been dead for weeks.

Oscar producer Raj Kapoor has already announced at a press conference that the show will include a musical homage to the late Quincy Jones, who passed away just two weeks before the Governors Awards, who was supposed to receive a victim of honor.
