Slow Horses Reins in Season 6 Renewal at Apple

The comedic spy drama starring Gary Oldman, Slow Horses, has received an early renewal from Apple for its sixth season.

The announcement follows the release of the season four finale on Apple TV+ on October 9 and the early announcement of a season five renewal.

The Slow Horses will be on the run in the fifth season, following the conclusion of season four, as Diana Taverner (Kristin Scott Thomas) involves them all in a deadly, high-stakes game of retaliation and vengeance.

Based on Mick Herron's Slough House novels, Slow Horses is about a dysfunctional team of British intelligence agents who work in MI5's Slough House, a dumping ground department. Jack Lowden, Saskia Reeves, Rosalind Eleazar, Christopher Chung, Samuel West, Aimee-Ffion Edwards, Ruth Bradley, Tom Brooke, Joanna Scanlan, and Jonathan Pryce round out the ensemble cast as well. Hugo Winding around joined the cast as a main adversary in season four.

Oscar champ Oldman stars as the crabby Jackson Sheep.

Jay Hunt, Apple TV+'s creative director for Europe, said in a statement on Tuesday that "audiences around the world have fallen in love with the Slow Horses, and I’m delighted that Gary Oldman will be leading this star-studded cast on another acerbic and action-packed adventure."

See-Saw Films' Slow Horses has Jamie Laurenson, Hakan Kousetta, Julian Stevens, Iain Canning, Emile Sherman, Adam Randall, Gail Mutrux, Douglas Urbanski, and Oldman as executive producers.

Adam Randall will return to direct Season 6, which will be adapted for television by co-executive producer Gaby Chiappe. Apple TV+ is where you can watch the first four seasons of Slow Horses; Data on the number of people watching Apple shows is not made public.

In 2024, Slow Horses was nominated for its first Emmy for its third season. That year, the show was up for nine awards, including best drama series and best lead actor for Oldman. The award for the best writing for a drama series went to the showrunner and writer Will Smith.

Smith revealed to The Hollywood Reporter prior to the release of season four that the intention is to adapt all nine Slough House books for the screen.

Smith stated, "I think Mick is writing the ninth right now, but we'll have to see what happens." It all depends on what Apple wants and how much they want, but I definitely have the "leave them wanting more" side of me rather than the "outstay your welcome" side. However, the world of the show can be mined. Mick has written a wonderful book called The Secret Hours, which is sort of a sidebar book about Lamb's backstory and introduces all of these other characters already in the book. It's a wonderful book, and I think it could be made into a short series, a movie, or something else. I am aware that Gary wants to continue for as long as he has asked. He enjoys playing the role.
