Bradley Cooper Eyed to Direct ‘Ocean’s 11’ Prequel and Star With Margot Robbie

Bradley Cooper, who is currently talking about starring with Margot Robbie in a new "Ocean's 11" prequel, is now also being considered to write and direct the Warner Bros. movie.

This update follows the recent exit of "Twisters" director Lee Isaac Chung, who left after Jay Roach, who had also been involved, stepped down.
If Cooper takes on the director role, produced by Robbie's LuckyChap, the project could still shoot before the end of the year. This would be Cooper's fourth movie as a director, including "A Star Is Born," "Maestro," and last year's "Is This Thing On?"

The story is expected to take place before the events of the 2001 original "Ocean's Eleven" film, which starred George Clooney, Matt Damon, Brad Pitt, and Julia Roberts.
Carrie Solomon has written a draft of the screenplay, which is set in 1960s Europe.

The original "Ocean's 11" came out in 1960 and featured the Rat Pack, including Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr., Joey Bishop, Peter Lawford, and Dean Martin.
The movie was directed by Steven Soderbergh and had two sequels: "Ocean's Twelve" in 2004 and "Ocean's Thirteen" in 2007. A reboot, "Ocean's Eight," came out in 2018 with Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, and Rihanna. Clooney is also working on a new "Ocean's" movie, featuring Roberts, Damon, Pitt, and Don Cheadle, focusing on the group as older criminals.

Clooney said last year that he was drawn to the idea of the group being too old to do what they used to, but still smart enough to pull off their plans.
"They've lost a step, and they need to find a way to work around their limitations," he told Variety.

The "Ocean's" prequel is one of several projects LuckyChap is working on with Warner Bros.
The production company signed a first-look deal after the success of "Barbie," which grossed over $1.4 billion and was Oscar-nominated. Earlier this month, the companies released Emerald Fennell's take on "Wuthering Heights." Up next is a new version of "Attack of the Fifty Foot Woman" with Tim Burton.

The news was first reported by Puck, and Warner Bros. did not comment.
